FREE Seminar on Skin Cancer Prevention and Skin Care

docSkin cancer is the most common form of cancer throughout the United States. Over the past 31 years, more people have had skin cancer than any other form of cancers combined. It is said that one in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer during their lifetime.

There is some good news. Skin cancer can be prevented with the proper steps and caution. On Thursday, May 31 at 7:00 pm Dr. Robert Brown of North Florida Dermatology Associates will be presenting a free seminar on Skin Care and Skin Prevention. Hosted by the Davidson Realty as part of their Davidson Speaker Series, Dr. Brown will discuss the importance of sun protection, regular skin check-ups and how to navigate the sea of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings.  Dr. Brown will also discuss how important it is for children to be aware of skin cancer at an early age. “Rates of skin cancer in children, teens and young adults are growing at an alarming rate,” Dr. Brown cautioned.  Throughout the seminar, Dr. Brown will be answering questions, providing insights, and giving advice for minimizing skin aging and maximizing skin health. The World Golf Village Relay for Life is Almost Here!

4f804acf065a49ac9b799e260b1ae059Come one, come all Saturday, April 14th beginning at 3:00 PM at the Neighborhood Park to support this years World Golf Village Relay for Life! Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, this overnight relay-style event will be running until 9:00 AM Sunday, April 15th and will have multiple local teams participating to raise awareness and donations. If you have not signed up yet for a team or if you want to create your own team it’s very simple, visit http://www.worldgolfrelay.com/. There’s a Bearsford team, Murray Bros Caddy Shack, Davidson Realty, Samara Lakes, The Golf Club of South Hampton, Village Chiropractic Center, Providence Bible Church and more to choose from!

If you are not familiar with Relay for Life, it began in the mid-1980s when Dr. Gordy Klatt from Tacoma wanted to increase the income of his local American Cancer Society office and support his patients who had battled cancer. In 1985, Dr. Klatt put his passions for running marathons and fundraising together and spent 24 straight hours running around a track while friends, family and patients watched.  Throughout the evening friends donated $25 to run or walk with Dr. Klatt for 30 minutes, raising $27,000 to fight cancer, and one man’s vision turned into a nation wide event. Have Some Fun for a Great Cause at the 12th Annual Murray Bros. Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament!

caddyshack-restaurant-logoIt’s that time of year again! Dust off those crazy golf pants, avoid the gopher at all cost, and make it out to the 12th annual Murray Bros. Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament. Hosted by the famous Murray family, this all-inclusive two day charity event is packed full with great golf, celebrity guests, live music, and all kinds of other antics. Everything is included except the hotel and transportation to this once-a-year, can’t miss charity event. Starting in 2001, this special event has raised over $1.5 million for healthcare and education throughout the first coast. This year, part of the proceeds will be donated to The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to help further provide equipment and training to fire departments, law enforcement, and EMS around Northeast Florida. St. Johns County Stays at the Head of Class!

Davidson Appreciates Teachers ResizedOn Monday, Jan. 23rd the state Department of Education released their annual grades for county schools based on the 2011 FCAT results (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test), and various other categories.  For the fourth straight year, the St. Johns County School District is ranked number one in the entire state of Florida! With 67 total school Districts and 3,078 public and charter schools in all of Florida, it is quite an accomplishment to be consistently at the top each school year.

A lot of credit needs to be given to the students throughout St. Johns County for their hard work, dedication and performances, which is reflected by their overall school grades.  But the teaching staff in St. Johns County needs a standing ovation for the above and beyond attitude they put forth everyday to ensure our children’s bright futures.

That is why more than ever, we as a community need to come together and show our appreciation towards our local teaching staff. As of January 30th and running until February 13th, Davidson Realty’s 4th quarter of Davidson Appreciates Teachers is kicking off. They will be collecting nominations for all the resource teachers at Mill Creek Elementary and Wards Creek Elementary Schools, including PE, Guidance Counselors, Art, Media Specialists, Music, Computer and Spanish.  (more…)
