2080-tiger-woods-and-jack-nicklausTiger Woods famously matched Jack Nicklaus’ PGA TOUR all-time win record when he won his 73rd victory at the 2012 Memorial Tournament.  Now items from that victory, including the ball Woods used to make his dramatic shot on the 16th hole and the glove he was wearing for his final round 67, are on display at the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum.

560481_10150853788969335_1599569763_nOne of our favorite exhibitions at the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum in World Golf Village is the Member Locker Room where life-size lockers are stocked with actual mementos from Hall of Famers’ lives, often telling little-known stories about their careers and personal lives.  What makes the Locker Room so compelling is the same reason the exhibits and lockers of the new 2012 Hall of Fame inductees are worth a visit: the personal mementos that provide an intriguing glimpse into the real worlds of golf’s greatest players and important contributors.

Contest draws 1,268 entries and plenty of water cooler chat!

name it play it logo REDFINWe knew we’d have some entries when we created the new Name It, Play It contest but when the entries climbed to over 1,000 we were pleasantly surprised.  The contest also generated a lot of buzz.  We heard neighbors talking about it in the fitness center, it was discussed on the golf course and we even heard chatter about it in Publix.  And then there were the emails…let’s just say some people were passionate about their entries.  In the end, the entry with the most votes (591 to be exact) was Kingpin which cleverly speaks to Arnold Palmer’s nickname as The King and, of course, the golf pin.

Ben became his mentor and gave him lessons on the game of golf. At the crossroads of Dan’s golf ability – Ben wanted him to achieve more and tried to coax him to commit to the game. Dan, a bit frustrated with his swing, told Ben, “I just want to be a sportswriter – I’ve always wanted to be a sportswriter”.

As Dan tells it – Ben paused and riveted him with an amour-piercing look – held eye-to-eye for an uncomfortably long time – then simply said, “Keep working at it”.

The rest is history because Dan Jenkins went on to become the greatest and most revered sportswriter in America – always working at his craft.

The Name It, Play It contest will kick off this Spring countrywide.  Contestants will submit a name suggestion for the golf hole.  Inspiration may come from the hole’s premier design, its stunning natural setting, the way it plays or elsewhere. The top submissions will be selected and voted on by the public.  The winning name will receive the honor of leaving his or her mark on the legendary course as well as an exclusive trip for two to World Golf Village, complete with deluxe accommodations at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, golf for two on both the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire courses courtesy of Honours Golf, a travel voucher for up to $500 courtesy of the Neighborhoods of World Golf Village and more!

Hollis Stacy

Stacy’s career was defined by her successes in USGA events. She charged onto the golf scene by winning consecutive U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship titles from 1969-71 and remains the only player ever to win that event three times. As a professional, she won U.S. Women’s Open championships in 1977, 1978 and 1984.
