The greenest day of the year is almost upon us! This year’s St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday (March 17) and St. Augustine is revving up for a great time.
St. Augustinians will kick off local festivities this weekend (March 10-12) with the 7th Annual Celtic Music and Heritage Festival located on Francis Field in the historic district. Echoes of bagpipes will fill the streets on Saturday, March 11, as a tartan-clad procession marches through St. Augustine’s streets for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Plan to arrive early; the streets along the procession fill up quickly!
On the big, lucky day, there will also be plenty to do. Here are just some of the Oldest City’s St. Patty’s Day festivities:
• The folks at Donovan’s Irish Pub will throw its annual St. Patrick’s Day Party all day! The party will include traditional Irish fare, dancing, bagpipes from 5-8 p.m. and live music from 7-11 p.m. Donovan’s is located in Palencia on A1A near International Golf Parkway.
• World Golf Village’s King & Bear community will host a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, complete with an evening of Irish cuisine, specialty cocktails, door prize giveaways for a lucky few, and plenty of Irish fun! Reservations are required and the cost is $17.95 per person. Contact Jorge Rivera at (904) 940-6117.
• The World Famous Oasis Deck & Restaurant is known for its St. Patty’s Day celebration and this year looks to be the best yet! The eatery will feature corned beef and cabbage, Guinness ribs, shepherd’s pie and more. Musical entertainment will include Crawford Boyd (4-8 p.m.) and Henry Joe Solo (7-11 p.m.). Just look for the large outdoor tent and listen out for the live bagpipes! Oasis is located on the main A1A thoroughfare in St. Augustine Beach.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to ye lads and lasses!
