Willie Jewell’s is a great new addition to the restaurants in World Golf Village! I stopped by last week for the first time to check it out and get my barbeque fix. Let me tell you, the food does not disappoint. The Adeeb Family, the owners of Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q and Willie Jewell’s, really got it right with this one!

Willie Jewell’s offers finger-licking appetizers like Country Corn Fritters, Fried Okra, Chicken Wings, Fried Pickles, and Homestyle Onion Rings. The corn fritters dipped in their homemade ranch dressing is the way to go! They also have a variety of salads, sandwiches, big ol’ platters and southern sides! Our group went for the Crispy Chicken Salad, the Beef Brisket platter and the Smoked Turkey Platter. I tried bites of the mac-n-cheese, collard greens and fries and they were all delicious.

“Get it while it lasts” is the motto at locally owned and operated Woodpeckers Backyard BBQ! Woodpeckers is a newly opened barbeque restaurant located at 4930 State RD 13 near World Golf Village. They serve mouthwatering smoked barbeque that some would argue is the best in town!

Woodpeckers opens at 11 am every day (but Monday) and serves its loyal clientele until the bbq runs out. The food goes fast due to their growing popularity, so it’s smart to grab an earlier lunch when you’re craving their tasty brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken, turkey or pork!

When I make my weekly trip to Woodpeckers, I always opt for the brisket sandwich with datil corn. They incorporate datil pepper’s spicy flavoring into their corn, baked beans and some homemade sauces. Delicious! Other sides include regular baked beans, corn on the cob and coleslaw. Make sure to ask about their daily specials and desserts!

With a great rustic atmosphere and tasty barbeque, Willard’s BBQ Junction is sure to be a neighborhood favorite! World Golf Village’s newest restaurant recently opened up next to the BP Gas Station on International Golf Parkway. The barbeque joint’s prices cannot be beat and their food is delicious and quick to order!

When it opened its doors in November 2007, Blackstone Grille set a new precedent for excellence in American Fusion cuisine for all of Northeast Florida. Since then, it has earned distinctions from Jacksonville Magazine as one of the area’s best eateries, and continues to gain traction as a top dining destination for Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

Blackstone’s executive chef and principal Charles Wang has been an integral part of the bistro’s success by utilizing his uniquely diverse culinary background. A more than 30-year restaurant veteran, Charles earned 1st Place honors at the 2002 TBS Superstation Dinner and a Movie, an invitation-only cooking competition held in New York. He has also been a cooking competition judge.

Antonio’s Pizza & Grill, located off CR 13 past Outback Crab Shack, is quite the hidden gem. But World Golf Village residents know them for their family’s traditional homemade Italian sausage. I recently made my first of many trips to Antonio’s to try out what my World Golf Village neighbors have been raving about. I was not disappointed by the delicious food or the excellent service!

The Ice Plant Bar offers an experience like no other restaurant in our area. Its early 20th century vibe invites visitors to enjoy cocktails and delicious food the way it was in the early 1900s. Ice Plant focuses on fresh local ingredients and house-made juices and syrups to create unique cocktails that sit perfectly on the tongue. Their ice is carved daily from slow-frozen, filtered water and custom cut to fit any of their specialty drinks or spirits. Watching the bartenders craft the perfect drink is part of the experience! The cool, speak-easy atmosphere along with the friendly staff, exceptional food and creative drinks make for a perfect night out on the town!

Delicious ice cream and game day munchies are here! Dairy Dugout recently opened in World Golf Village’s West Town Place Plaza (next to Cino’s) and our WGV residents couldn’t be more excited for their weekly lunch specials and ice cream galore! I recently stopped by Dairy Dugout for a sweet treat and was very pleased with my vanilla and chocolate swirl ‘Chang Up’ loaded with Reese’s Cups and Snickers.

Davidson Realty’s team took an afternoon to leave our World Golf Village-based office and make our way to Julington Creek for lunch at Blackstone Grille. We had heard wonderful things about the bistro style restaurant located at Bartram Oaks Walk (close to the intersection of SR13 San Jose and Race Track Road), but we had to try it for ourselves. Our group of 30 was graciously greeted and seated in a private room. We had exceptional service and scrumptious food!

Blackstone Grille offered us a fixed menu to cater to our large group size and help with timing of the lunch. We had to get back to the real world at some point, I guess! Especially with all the home sales and real estate closings our amazing agents have been handling.

From the moment you enter New York Pizza Company, a quaint little pizza shop in Palencia Village, you are greeted with warmth by the employees and the smell of pies baking. You can see the cook slinging dough and throwing it in the air, while you enjoy one (or a few) of the many scrumptious appetizers on their menu. Not only is the restaurant’s charming staff prompt and pleasant, they also serve great New York style pizza and other delectable Italian dishes!

Two of my favorite restaurants to visit by sea or land are Cap’s on the Water and The Conch House Restaurant. Cap’s offers new coastal cuisine in an old Florida setting, while The Conch House is known for delectable Caribbean style cooking. Regardless which style you prefer, they both deliver fresh Florida seafood and outstanding service.
