For Rickey and Marsha Johnson, moving to World Golf Village was destiny in a way. After raising their two children and travelling all over the country in their RV, the Alabama natives found the First Coast had already become home to something very special – their growing family. They knew this was the place for them.

We recently caught up with Marsha to learn more about the Johnsons and their story.

Like many residents who settle into the World Golf Village area, Lynn and Craig Stambaugh were attracted to our area’s warm sense of community, great location, and abundance of golf.

Lynn, a registered nurse working in IV home care, and Craig, a mechanical engineer who works on fighter jets, initially owned World Golf Village property about 10 years ago but opted to sell it. However, when they began considering a place to live when they retire, World Golf Village stood out as a great option. As Lynn says, “We came down in 2012 and there were some beautiful lots for sale, so we took the leap…again!”

We always enjoy getting to know our World Golf Village neighbors, and with so many incoming residents, we get new folks to meet all the time! And it was a special pleasure to meet Erica and Clayton Thompson.

The family of six (with another on the way) recently moved to the Murabella neighborhood. Erica recently found time to fit us into her (very) busy schedule and introduce us to her family.

Where did you move from?  We moved here all the way from Jacksonville.

Where are you and Clayton from originally?  Both of our families relocated to the Jacksonville area when we were younger, mine from Kentucky and Clayton’s from Virginia.

If your mom is anything like mine, you find it very hard to pick the perfect gift to show just how much you appreciate and love the woman who gave you life! You could go the easy route and stick with something you know she’ll love like spa services, an upscale restaurant gift certificate, a handwritten note, something made by the grandkids or maybe switch it up this year! Believe it or not there is still time…

Gift Ideas:

Shop local! What about a custom frame to go with the new photo of the grandkids (or in my case granddogs)? Check out MFrames on Etsy. MFrames are custom, handmade picture frames and home goods that are affordable, unique and thoughtful. You can even have them engraved! Skip the shipping and pop over to the shop to pick your frame up before Sunday.

TPC tickets! Even if your mom isn’t the biggest fan of golf, THE PLAYERS Championship is a must-see social event. The tournament runs from May 10 – May 15 and all different types of tickets are available from Stadium Passes (with access to more than 19 on-site public venues, local food and beverages, rope-side access to your favorite players and much more) to Family Plans and The Blue Room Passes.

Events:

Take advantage of everything going on in World Golf Village and St. Augustine on Sunday and spend the day with mom!

Mother’s Day Buffet at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort – Get the family together between 11 am and 3 pm. Check out Renaissance’s Facebook Page for the brunch menu. RSVP at (904) 940-8696.

Special Mother’s Day Champagne Carriage Ride for Two – The Tasting Tours is offering a very special 3-hour Mother’s Day food and wine tasting extravaganza via horse-drawn carriage on May 7th and May 8th (including champagne and flowers)! The tour is $139 per person and includes VIP boarding, champagne, fresh flowers, 3 hours of food and wine, 4 to 5 food and/or wine tasting venues, wine to enjoy on the carriage and a guided tour of historic St. Augustine.

Happy Mother’s Day to all!

World Golf Village offers a welcoming environment where residents can put up their feet and relax. Nevertheless, it is a magnet for adventurous people to love to travel and explore. A great example of this type of resident is Michael and Yvonne Tyson. The Tysons recently purchased a home in Turnberry, one of World Golf Village’s most sought after communities for buyers.

Between settling into her new home and chipping away at the couple’s vacation bucket list, Yvonne recently took a few minutes to answer some questions for us.

The World Golf Village area home to people with a wide bevy of interests. From sports and games to books and films, there is always a neighbor close-by with whom you can connect and share an interest. One such neighbor is the Greene family.

Jay and Leigh moved to their home in the King & Bear’s Laterra community in May of last year and have come to be right at home in World Golf Village. As major film buffs, the Greenes enjoy taking in movies, exploring the local food scene and walking their beloved Boston Terrier around their new neighborhood.

In the World Golf Village community, each resident brings their own interesting perspective on what makes this a great place to live. We recently sat down with 12-year-old Adam Cake, who lives in Royal Pines with his family – including his parents, Davidson Realty agents Woody and Pauline Cake.

Adam provided insights on the daily life of a WGV kid as well as great suggestions for how kids can have fun in St. Augustine!

What grade are you in? I’m in 7th grade at Pacetti Bay Middle School.

Resident Spotlight: Ron Savarese

Posted by: Peyton Davidson in WGV Residents

Over the past 20 years, World Golf Village has been developed and nurtured by builders, contributors and residents who truly understood the vision of this special community. For more than five years, Ron Savarese has been one of those valuable contributors. We recently caught up with him to learn more.

Ron graduated from Franklin Pierce University in 1966 and joined the U.S. Army. After a tour in Vietnam, he taught fourth and fifth grades in Middleton, New York, and then pursued a more than 30-year career as a general manager and owner in the automobile business.

Upon retiring in 2004, Ron and his wife Gail moved from Southwick, Massachusetts right here to St. Augustine. They immediately fell in love with the area and Ron joined Davidson Realty in 2008. Since then, he has been dedicated to cultivating strong knowledge of neighborhoods and homes in and around World Golf Village.

People move to World Golf Village for a variety of reasons – a safe family environment, sense of community, the golf lifestyle. But the Village also provides great career opportunities for many of our residents, including Josh and Stephanie Pate.

Both find their passion and career in the hospitality industry – Josh’s focus being on the hotel side and Stephanie focusing on catering and conventions. The couple recently joined the staff at the Renaissance World Golf Village.

The Pates, who also just bought their condominium in The Legends this winter, are enjoying their time settling into their new jobs and beautiful new home. We recently caught up with Stephanie to learn more about our new residents!

Though Randy and Bernadette Slocum are new residents, the couple actually took an interest in World Golf Village when it was just starting to take root in the late 90s.

While they didn’t buy at that time, the community certainly made a lasting impression on the couple and they recently settled into the King & Bear community where they are enjoying the peace, beauty, and of course, golf. We caught up with Randy to learn more.

How long have you lived in World Golf Village?  We closed on our new home in December 2013. We have settled in on Crown Drive and are truly enjoying everything about this wonderful community. In fact, before we bought our home in Jacksonville 14 years ago we had looked at World Golf Village when it was in its infancy.
