The World Golf Hall of Fame celebrates the history, heritage and traditions of golf. The World Golf Village (WGV) community-at-large celebrates its ever-evolving special place through continued good-growth in a Live Oak punctuated landscape that is well on its way to making its own history and establishing its own legacy.
The original neighborhoods of Turnberry, Royal Pines, St. Andrews, The Legends, Meadows and Heritage Landing are all complete – with over 2,200 homes. The King and Bear neighborhoods are 92% occupied, with 892 of their 968 homes complete. The first WGV age-restricted neighborhood is thoroughly-well established with 450 single-family homes in The Cascades.
Recently, there has been a resurgence of home-building that is filling out and completing many of the associated WGV neighborhoods. Greenside at WGV is rapidly building 36 single family homes overlooking the Slammer & Squire #6 fairway. Legacy Trail is also nearing completion with 30 exclusive single family homes – most overlooking the #16 & #17 fairways of the Slammer & Squire.

In recent years, the area has experienced significant residential and commercial growth. The U.S. Census Bureau places St. Johns County as the 11th fastest-growing county in the U.S. (based on 2013/2014 estimates).

When we think of childhood, what we often visualize is images of riding bikes, family events and birthday parties. But there are too many kids in our community that see none of these things – only years filled with pain and loneliness. This is where St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) steps in, provides therapeutic care and love, and changes lives every day.

Founded in 1989 by Carl Simone, SAYS is a private, not-for-profit agency that provides three therapeutic residential homes for First Coast area boys ages six to 18 who have suffered from physical or sexual abuse, or extreme neglect. “Our goal is to build self-esteem in these boys and young men to help them lead positive, meaningful lives,” said Executive Director Schuyler Siefker, who was honored as 2014 Administrator of the Year by the Florida Coalition for Children.

Davidson Realty President Sherry Davidson and I recently met up with Chris Wood, Vice President of Riverside Homes, to learn how his newly-formed company came to be and check out all of Riverside Homes’ new construction happening in Durbin Crossing.  Chris and his business partner Matt Roberts jumped at the chance to build in one of St. Johns County’s fastest growing communities located in the high-performing school district of St. Johns County. Durbin Crossing even has a K-8 school currently under construction scheduled to open for the 2014 school year.

Despite taking over two (2) years to complete and costing $3.5 million, the Modification of Development Approvals and Environmental Permitting process experience was not that bad. Involved in the process were St. Johns County (SJC), Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council (NEFRPC) and the State of Florida – Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The DCA also coordinates with other state agencies such as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
